ABOUT HEAL THE SEA

Turning the Coast Into a Living Classroom

Heal The Sea creates hands-on marine science experiences that bring students and groups directly into the coastal environment of Southwest Florida.

Aboard a Coast Guard-certified sailing vessel, students become Marine Biologists in Training—observing coastal ecosystems, recording discoveries in field journals, developing questions and hypotheses, collecting data, and learning through direct experience.

Our Mission

Our mission is to inspire curiosity, scientific thinking, and ocean stewardship by connecting people with the living systems of the coast.

We believe marine science becomes more meaningful when learners can experience it firsthand—seeing habitats up close, asking questions about what they discover, and using the methods of field science to better understand the natural world.

LEARNING THROUGH DISCOVERY

Science Becomes More Meaningful When Students Can Experience It

Heal The Sea is built around active participation rather than passive sightseeing. Students observe coastal habitats, use field journals, practice the scientific method, discuss marine ecology, and work together as they investigate the natural environment.

By connecting classroom concepts with direct observation, each expedition gives students opportunities to ask questions, record discoveries, analyze what they observe, and develop a deeper understanding of marine biology and coastal ecology.

Hands-On Investigation

Students actively explore and investigate the coastal environment rather than simply observing from a distance.

Scientific Observation

Careful observation helps students notice patterns, ask better questions, and think more like scientists.

Field Journaling & Data Collection

Students document observations, hypotheses, and discoveries as part of the scientific process.

Environmental Stewardship

Direct experience with coastal habitats helps build awareness of the living systems students are learning about.
